Kingsbridge WI members already had a tradition of giving Christmas presents to people in Kingsbridge who have learning difficulties, so when National Federation asked all WIs to do somthing special in their community it was decided to extend this.
Instead of just giving gifts to be won as prizes at Christmas parties we only give to those who either do not have family or have family who are not able to give.
There are 18 people on our Wish list, who are given 3 gifts for birthday and 3 for Christmas plus some home-made cookies or little cakes and mince pies.
Wish is a good name as all concerned tell us what they would like and what they are interested in.
A small number of members arrange this and collect lots of nice things so that there are usually enough gifts for birthdays with a bit of help from other members.
For Christmas gifts, a list is made for all members to see, so that those who want to give a gift can chose what gift and who they would like to give it to.
It is lovely to be part of Wish and to how much our gifts mean. We have some super thank you cards and are often told what a difference our giving makes.
